Aztec Network has released Connect, a privacy-focused Layer 2 update. Aztec Connect Ethereum apps will be upgraded to incorporate privacy via a bridge.
Aztec Network will release a new version of its Layer 2 rollup solution for Ethereum, called Connect.

The update will be live on Thursday and will focus on smart contract data privacy.
Aztec previously offered a private money protocol, Zkmoney. This allowed users to protect data on Ethereum transactions. It was a standalone solution, and it didn’t allow Ethereum applications to integrate data privacy.

The Aztec team hopes to position Connect as a privacy protecting Layer 2 alternative to other Layer 2s such as Optimism and StarkWare.

Popular DeFi apps like Lido and Aave, Compound, Ribbon, Ribbon, and Uniswap will be available on Aztec. According to Jonathan Wu (head of Aztec’s growth), these apps will soon be able to connect to Aztec Connect using a bridge.

Wu said that Aztec Connnect will offer software development kits (SDKs) to bridge contracts and create private apps on Ethereum. Wu stated that Aztec Connect, unlike other Layer 2, will encrypt user activities, starting from the browser and ending with the processing of transactions on network.

Aztec Connect, a precursor of Aztec 3, is Aztec’s Layer 2 rollup. It will allow native deployment of smart contract. Aztec will release Noir, a Rust-based smart contracts development language, when that happens later in the year.
